Today I researched the use of foley at 'foleycutking.com'.
This entails the use of post-production sounds edited into the actual film. An example of a way of doing this would be hitting shells rhythmically on the ground and shaking metal chains to present the sound of horse movements.
Foley can be used to make scenes more dramatic with a clearer sound. Or it could be simply more intense or in some cases more quiet to create suspense. The link shown displays an example of the horse noise I mentioned earlier but more intense, displaying a war scene:

Skills Needed
I know in terms of development, I will need to increase my independent skill level in making a short film. For my AS level brief coursework I had a partner so it was a completely different experience.
This year I have both the challenge and excitement of forming my own individual product.
I know I will need to improve my knowledge on using editing programs like 'Imovie' and 'Final Cut'. In relation to which I'll need to develop a higher level of patience to push through the difficult times of the editing stages to come out with the final product I'm looking to end up with.
My aim for my short film is to create a thought provoking sequence that will be taken seriously at the same time. To do this I hope to attain a high skill level of acting in the actors I choose for the messages and dialogue to be put forth effectively to the audience.

Why I Choose Film
The reason I am doing a short film is because I am and always have been a fanatical film lover. I am also an experienced technologist and no my way around media blogs and applications such as iMovie. I am used to frequently using my own personal pieces that I construct out of interest of film. I’ve always been thinking about media as a career route that I want to take. Acting has a large appeal but it also does to numerous youths of my age. This means that if I do end up following that path, I’ll be facing a large amount of competition. Media as an A level option appeals to me for my interest in the subject but also to enrich my knowledge of that world for help in my future choices. There is also the fact that I’ve gained inspiration from individuals in the media enterprise; An example being the director Wes Anderson who’s responsible for films such as the 'Royal Tenenbaums', 'Darjeeling Limited' and the 'Moonrise Kingdom'. My reason for being so interested in him is the fact that he's so original and distinct in the way his films are presented in match on action like no other director I know.
I'm excited to take on the task of making a short film; it's exciting for me in multiple ways. I will be making it by myself instead of with a partner like last year and I also have a larger timeframe for the short film of five minutes, whereas last year the opening sequence was only a few minutes.
Video Brief
To make a short film in its entirety, lasting approximately five minutes, which may be live action or animated or a combination of both, together with two of the following three options:
a poster for the film;
a radio trailer for the film;
a film magazine review page featuring the film.
The two choices I will choose will be the poster and the radio trailer.
The idea of making a poster really intrigued me; Because I haven't had the opportunity to work on photoshop since I was at GCSE level last year I didn't make a poster for the brief I choose. I'm also interested to see how well I can market my theme on just one face of material.

Furthermore I know I will enjoy making the radio trailer for the film because I can play around with different phonic sounds and try and make the largest impact I can tapping in to only one of the human senses; hearing.
